Sioux Chief Mfg. Co. Inc. was founded and incorporated in August, 1957 by the late Martin E. "Ed" Ismert, Jr. in an attempt to smooth the boom-bust housing cycle that his plumbing wholesale supply company experienced. Established in the late '50s, Sioux Chief started by packaging specialty fasteners and other items aimed at residential plumbing jobs. In the early 1960s, Ed borrowed the idea of spinning copper tube closed for simple air chambers and adapted it for stub outs, which could be used by plumbers. This pre-formed copper tube saved plumbers from having to sweat solder tube caps onto their copper tube for water shock and test-off purposes.

By 1975, a heavy emphasis on sales and new product development began when Ed's two eldest sons purchased the corporation and took over operations. Since then, Sioux Chief has introduced a wide range of innovative products. One such product is the Hanger Strap, which features alternating 1/4 inch and 3/16 inch holes and is made of galvanized steel, measuring 3/4 inch by 10 feet.

The company's early success can be attributed to its ability to identify and address the needs of plumbers in the residential market. The development of the pre-formed copper tube stub outs, for instance, was a practical solution that streamlined the installation process and saved plumbers time and effort. This focus on innovation and customer-centric solutions has remained a core part of Sioux Chief's strategy as the company has continued to expand its product portfolio over the years.

Under the new leadership of Ed's sons, Sioux Chief has continued to thrive, with a strong emphasis on sales and product development. The introduction of the Hanger Strap, with its unique design and durable construction, is just one example of the company's commitment to providing high-quality, innovative solutions to its customers. As Sioux Chief looks to the future, it is poised to build on its legacy of innovation and continue to contribute to the success of plumbers and contractors in the residential market.
